Henning headlines All-OEC selections
The Saddleback baseball team starts the playoffs this Friday after finishing third in the Orange Empire Conference standings. The coaches convened on Monday to determine an all-conference team.
Matthew Henning was the headliner for Saddleback, making the All-OEC First Team. Henning was second on the team in batting average (.329) among players that played at least 25 games. He led the team in both on-base percentage (.482) and runs-scored (45) while finishing with an outstanding .978 fielding percentage. Henning had six games with three hits or more, collecting four hits in a game on two occasions. His top game of the season at the plate came against Santa Ana (3/5/26) when he reached base five times, finishing 4-for-4 with a walk.
Three other Saddleback players made the second team in Wesley Hickey, Landon Gordon and Jacob Hudson.
Hickey batted .325 for the season, finishing second on the team with four home runs while finishing third in extra base hits (13).
Gordon finished 4-2 for the season with a team-leading 3.39 ERA among pitchers with more than 10 innings of work. He walked just 14 batters in 69 innings of work while starting nine games.
Hudson led the team with a .350 batting average while playing in all 40 games. His .460 slugging percentage ranked third on the team among starters while finishing third in both runs-scored (33) and stolen bases (13).
