Two former players heading to NFL camps
Kapena Gushiken and Drew Nash will get their shot at the NFL
The Saddleback football program was back in the news this week with the announcement that two former players will be attending NFL camps this fall. Former defensive back Kapena Gushiken and quarterback Drew Nash will compete for playing time in the professional ranks.
Gushiken signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles the day after the 2026 NFL Draft. He played for Saddleback on both the 2021 and 2022 teams, earning All-National Division Southern League First Team recognition as a sophomore. Gushiken then played at Washington State for two seasons before playing at Ole Miss in 2025. He is listed at 6-foot and 185 pounds and projected to play safety with the Eagles.
Nash received an invite to the Los Angeles Chargers rookie minicamp, where he hopes to impress the coaching staff. He played for Saddleback in 2021, leading the team with 1,304 yards passing and 12 touchdown passes. Nash signed with Western Colorado following his year at Saddleback, playing three seasons for the Mountaineers. During his time at Western Colorado, Nash was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and first-team quarterback as a senior. He had a program-record 77 touchdown passes in his three seasons at the school, throwing for 33 as a senior in 2025.
