Football transfers up to 37

The Saddleback football program continued its offseason headlines in recent weeks in adding to its record number of transfers.  The Bobcats had two more players sign at four-year schools, bringing the total to 37 for the year.

Quarterback Nicky Johnson and long snapper Matthew Cox added their names to the list of 2025 team members that have found a new home during the offseason.  Johnson will play at East Texas A&M University while Cox will play at Western Colorado.

Johnson played in 11 games this past season for the Bobcats, throwing for 685 yards and three touchdowns.  In addition, Johnson ran for 134 yards and one score on the ground. 

East Texas A&M is located in Commerce, Texas, and plays an NCAA D1 schedule in the Southland Conference.

Cox redshirted this past season for Saddleback.  He will head to Western Colorado, located in Gunnison, Colorado.  The Mountaineers play an NCAA D2 schedule within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

In addition to 37 signings during the offseason, 29 players have now ended up at NCAA D1 schools, with 20 of them being freshmen from the 2025 squad.  Scholarships awarded to Saddleback football players are estimated to be around $3.4 million for this past season.
