Hiers commits to four-year school
Sophomore ready to sign deal with school in South Carolina
The Saddleback men's basketball program was back in the news this week with the announcement that a member of the 2025-26 team has committed to a four-year university. Sophomore Malachi Hiers will play at Allen University, according to the basketball office.
Allen is located in Columbia, South Carolina, and plays an NCAA D2 schedule within the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Hiers played in 26 games this past season, averaging 8.0 points-per-game while finishing second on the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg). His biggest offensive performance came against rival Irvine Valley College when he scored 16 points. Hiers also had a double-double against Los Angeles Trade Tech when he scored 10 points with 10 rebounds against the Beavers.
Hiers played in 56 total games at Saddleback during his career, scoring 279 points while pulling down 217 rebounds.
Hiers was originally from South Carolina, playing at Spartanburg High School before graduating in 2022.
Hiers was also a part of the Saddleback track & field team this past spring, participating in the high jump. In addition, he was named the Male Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year at Saddleback for 2025-26.
