Williams breaks 43-year long jump record
Bobcats win two events at the OEC prelims
The Saddleback men's track & field team was in action at the Orange Empire Conference Prelims on Friday in Riverside. The Bobcats won two events while one athlete set a new program record.
Isaiah Williams put his name into the Saddleback Track & Field record books when he leaped a distance of 7.42 meters (24' 4.25") in the long jump to win the event. Williams broke the record of Tracy Mitchell who jumped 24' 3.75" back in 1983.
Williams' jump was the longest in the state this season and broke his own personal-best for the season by 2' 1.25".
Joining Williams at the top of the podium on Friday was Jameel Naber, who won the javelin throw. Naber had a toss of 54.61 meters to win the event by nearly 21 feet. It was just shy of his season-best as Naber has the third longest javelin throw in the state this season (56.14m).
Saddleback picked up a few more points when Jace Orsini finished sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:11.50) and Jaden Rahmaan was seventh in the long jump (6.46m).
Saddleback is currently in third place in the team standings through a handful of events. The OEC Finals will take place next Friday at Riverside City College.
