Women’s track off to great start at OEC Finals
Cats win three events on opening day of OEC Finals
The Saddleback women's track & field team got off to a hot start at the Orange Empire Conference Prelims on Friday at Riverside City College. The Bobcats had three winners on opening day of the two-day meet.
Saddleback had wins from Payton Love, Roxanne Meyer and Alexandra McCoy in getting off to a quick start in the OEC Prelims. The three wins put Saddleback into third place in the conference standings with the finals taking place this coming Friday.
Love had a great day in the 10,000 meters, setting a personal-best in winning the event. She crossed the finish line in 40:56.97 to win the event by over 1.5 minutes. Love moved into seventh place in the state with the run and earned herself the "A" standard for the year. It also moved her into seventh all-time in Saddleback program history.
Joining Love at the top of the podium was Meyer, who has been a dominating force in the jumps this season. Meyer won the long jump by nearly two feet on Friday when she leaped 5.96 meters (19' 6.75"). She has the longest jump in the state this season after jumping 6.16 meters at the Moorpark Invitational on April 3.
McCoy had another solid day in winning the pole vault when she cleared 3.05 meters to comfortably win the event. It tied a personal-best for McCoy, who is currently in 18th place in the state. Joining McCoy on the podium for the pole vault on Friday was Sarah Maclean, who finished third in the event (2.30m).
