Meyer headlines third place finish
Bobcats heading to SoCal Prelims next week
The Saddleback women's track & field team finished in third place at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Finals on Friday in Riverside. Roxanne Meyer was named the 2026 OEC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Year.
Meyer won the long jump last weekend at the prelims and was busy again on Friday with two more events. She completed a sweep in the jumps with a leap of 12.61 meters in the triple jump, which broke her own program record set at the Moorpark Invitational two weeks ago. Meyer now has the longest jump in the state in both events heading into the regional finals the next two weekends. Meyer wasn't finished, however, finishing fourth in the high jump when she cleared 1.55 meters. Her best leap of the year was 1.60 meters at the Soka Indoors to start the season.
Saddleback had other winners at the Orange Empire Conference Finals in Payton Love and Alexandra McCoy, who both won at the prelims last weekend. Love was a winner in the 10,000 meters (40:56.97) while McCoy won the pole vault (3.05m). Also earning points in the pole vault was Sarah Maclean, who finished third in the event (2.60m).
Saddleback had a great finish in the 800 meters on Friday when finishing second and fifth in the event. Zelda Sorto was a second place finisher when she crossed the finish line in 2:27.91, which was the 47th fastest time in the state this season. Shae Barrera also picked up points for the team when finishing fifth in the 800 meters (2:35.79) and fifth in the 1,500 meters (5:12.85).
Payton Love added to her resume on Friday with a second place finish in the 5,000 meters when she finished in 19:32.80. The run was good enough for 28th in the state this season.
Saddleback finished third as a team at the OEC Finals. They will compete again at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Prelims at Bakersfield College starting Saturday.
